Internationell organisation för museer – ICOM

ICOM är en internationell organisation för museer och anställda inom museiområdet och syftet är att utveckla och förbättra världens museer.
ICOM har mer än 15 000 institutioner som medlemmar i 147 länder. ICOMs huvudkontor är placerat  i Paris.

ICOM’s defintion av ett museum: “en allmännyttig, permanent, offentligt tillgänglig institution i samhällets och dess utvecklings tjänst, som förvärvar, bevarar, utforskar, kommunicerar och ställer ut materiella föremål från människor och deras omvärld med syftet för studier, utbildning och underhållning.”
